Volunteer in Church

Putting our Faith into Action

Highland Presbyterian Church is committed to mission and justice in a variety of ways. These are opportunities to serve in and around the church to help Highland Presbyterian Church be a place of hospitality in the name of Jesus Christ.

Ushers and Greeters: Sunday Mornings

Every Sunday our ushers and greeters seek to make the church easier to navigate and an altogether friendly place to gather for visitors and old friends alike.

Work Crew Saturdays

Once a month a team gathers to give some TLC to the church grounds and building. Do you like to plant, clean, water, mulch, trim, paint, repair? Then come out for a workday.

Meal Train

When people have short-term or special needs following a hospital stay, surgery, illness, loss, or other life circumstance, assistance is often offered in the form of a meal train, where church members sign up to bring meals.

Food Ministries

There are many opportunities to provide food or cook for others at fellowship and mission events. The Kitchen Committee is committed to providing sustainable, nutritional food to our congregation and others in the community. In 2013, we adopted the Louisville Food Principles to live out our commitment to the care of creation.

Annual Service Events

Collecting for Portland Avenue Community Trust (PACT)

January and September are months that the congregation helps stock the shelves at PACT. PACT accepts all shelf-stable food and toiletry items, but sometimes has specific asks based on their current needs. Look for grocery shopping lists in the announcements.

Back-to-School Supply Drive

Each year Highland collects school supplies for students through Highlands Community Ministries and Kentucky Refugee Ministries. Supply lists will be in the bulletins and newsletters. Supplies can be dropped off in the blue bins in the fellowship hall in July and August.

HCM Thanksgiving Baskets

Each holiday season, the church contributes over 50 Thanksgiving baskets full of food to help make Thanksgiving more abundant for families in the Highlands neighborhood through Highlands Community Ministries. Donate food and help organize the baskets in November.

HCM Christmas Gifts Tree

Christmas is always brighter with some much-needed gifts under the tree. The church works with Highlands Community Ministries to provide gifts for families in our neighborhood. Look for the angel tree in the fellowship hall leading up to Christmas, find a child or family to shop for and return the wrapped gifts to the church before the advertised date to make Christmas a joyous occasion for a family in need.

Alternative Gifts Market

Church in the World makes it easy to give Christmas gifts that make a difference in the world. Each December look for your opportunity to offer a donation in someone’s name to a variety of our mission partners.
